The Snooty Fox

Shop til you drop

This morning I woke up bright and early to join a bus full of women on an all-day shopping adventure to Cincinnati's chain of upscale consignment stores, better known as "The Snooty Fox." The store boasts designer fashions, accessories, shoes, handbags, and even furniture. We visited 5 of the 8 store locations. This was my first Snooty Fox experience and I have to admit, I was more than impressed!

The bus trip was great surrounded by friends and newly found friends (by the end of the day) and the quality of the merchandise made it feel like a true treasure hunt. Some of my favorite purchases from the trip are an Escada suit (that fits like a glove), a Max Mara satchel, a skirt by Oscar De La Renta, dresses by Free People, Max & Cleo, BCBG Max Azria, and much more! Amazingly I did not purchase any items for the home, although that doesn't mean there weren't any great items. I think I just need a small break from home goods after all my shopping for the Home & Garden Show. Don't worry - I'll be back on my game tomorrow!

Introducing.......

March 3, 2010

You may be wondering why my blog has a different name than the actual business I blog about. Here's the skinny: HappyRoost is my latest project - an offshoot of Laura Weimer Interior Design - and inspired by my love for all things vintage. HappyRoost.com will be an online furniture, accessories, and decor retailer that aims to provide a fun shopping atmosphere for you! We will carry one-of-a-kind accessories, hand created/refurbished furnishings, and unique vintage finds. The site will also feature a new concept in the world of shopping - all prices will be negotiable!

Hopefully this new site will help me reduce my inventory to a manageable size. Currently, my house, barn, garage, shed, and greenhouse all serve as storage! I have gathered and collected antiques since I was in elementary school; beginning with antique dolls, clothing, and dollhouse furniture spanning to my current obsession with mid-century modern pieces. It will also bring me one step closer to my eventual goal of opening my own store here in Dayton, Ohio.

In addition to my personal collection of oddities, I hope to include original artwork by local artists (perhaps with a few of my own thrown in) and fun gift items. I hope to have the site up and running by the end of March. It will start with just a few items added each week and we'll go from there! Please check in often to www.happyroost.com.

And the Award Goes To....

Winner of the 2010 People's Choice Award

Laura Weimer Interior Design LLC is proud to be the winner of the People's Choice Award for the best design at Dayton's Home & Garden Show.

Thank you everyone for your votes and support! I'm looking forward to participating again next year. I'm already conjuring several possible ideas! Maybe I should have a vote as to which concept I should complete?

Congratulations also to John Stuart of J. Parker Stuart Interiors for winning the Mayor's award for his fabulous design!

The show was great advertisement for my company and winning the people's choice award was sweet icing on the cake! For more pictures of my design please visit my website: www.lauraweimer.com

All the furniture pieces I refurbished and painted myself. I even designed the chair upholstery by creating a template in AutoCad then painting the pattern on with fabric paint. It was easy and cheap - the fabric was on clearance for $1.50 /yd!

All items featured in the photographs are for sale so if you or someone you know is interested in something, please contact me! Prices are negotiable. I just don't have the space to store everything :)

Thanks again!

Hello to Another Year

Updates, Reflections and Resolutions

January 25, 2010

I'm excited to welcome the new year as it marks the official one-year anniversary for Laura Weimer Interior Design LLC. Last year started slow but ended in a hustle with the decoration of Tipp City's Willowtree Inn for the Holiday Homes Tour. As if that wasn't enough, the sets for Grace Community Church's annual Heart of the Holidays Dessert Theater were built during the same time! You can check out photos for both events on the home page.

Aidan 5
The past few months I've had the privilege working as an illustrator for the cutting edge web series "Aidan 5." The sets are hand drawn to create a truly unique look with an enticing plot to boot! Here's an excerpt from the website:

"Produced locally in the heart of Columbus, Ohio and based on the award-winning 48-hr film festival short, Aidan 5 is a no-budget sci-fi web series made solely with an all-volunteer cast and crew under pressured time restrictions. The goal: to achieve an impossible vision with creativity and determination as the only resources. Set in a futuristic city, Aidan 5 chronicles the journey of one detective who must unravel the mystery behind the serial killings of his own clones."

You can read more at Aidan5

Knoop House
Another exciting upcoming project is the Dayton Society of Interior Designers 2010 show house taking place in the renowned Knoop House just outside of Troy. The show house will be open to the public this fall from September 25 to October 10. The house and acreage was recently donated to the Miami County Parks District and serves as their main offices. The preview party took place January 21 where designers, park district employees, benefactors, and friends joined to celebrate the designers' plans for each of the rooms. Currently, the designs are still on display so head over there and check them out! Laura Weimer Interior Design LLC was selected to design a front porch. The plans will be posted shortly!

Home and Garden Show
My latest endeavors have been to prepare for Dayton's Home and Garden show taking place at the Convention Center February 26-28. Each designer will have their own space in addition to many of Dayton's home remodelers, builders, landscapers, and more. DSID (Dayton Society of Interior Designers) is proud to be part of this event and will have a who-dun-it "Clue" theme. My vote goes to Mrs. Peacock in the library with the rope.

Wishing you a fantastic new year!
